With the historic and unprecedented (ugh, not this word again) indictment of former President Donald Trump, Saturday Night Live decided to poke fun at the man's penchant for comparing himself to Jesus Christ.
During the show's Easter cold open, a recreation of The Last Supper is stopped in its tracks so Trump (wonderfully played by James Austin Johnson) can wax poetically about how he and the son of God both faced similar situations. Despite Jesus having never done anything wrong, Trump sees a bit of himself in the J-man.
"You many people are saying we're very similar," Trump tells the audience. "We're both very tall, very popular, and both frankly, white Americans."
During the sketch, faux-Trump remarks that he even has his own Judas—Ron Desantis.
"He came to me in tears in his eyes and says 'Help me Mr. Trump, I'm going to lose my election'," Trump recounts. "So I generously pretended to like him and then he did a Judas and now he can't even get the gays out of Disney World."
The cold open continues with faux-Trump making potshots at Jesus, saying that he possibly is better than the messiah because he's a "self-made billionaire" and Jesus is a "nepo baby."
"I mean his dad is God," Trump says. "It's pretty easy to start a religion when your dad is God."
