Warning: Contains spoilers for WandaVision.
Who's been messing up everything? Who's been pulling every evil string?
WandaVision's insidious, perfidious bop "Agatha All Along" has landed an Emmy, one of three taken home by Marvel Studios over the weekend.
Marvel Studios won its first ever Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday and Sunday for its first MCU Disney+ show, taking home awards for production design for a narrative program (half-hour) and for outstanding fantasy/sci-fi costumes.
But one of the biggest earworms of the year, "Agatha All Along", written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, took out the Emmy for best original music and lyrics.
Although Agatha was one of the biggest missed opportunities of WandaVision, the song itself was not. "Agatha All Along" lands in episode 7 of WandaVision as one of the big reveals of the series (spoiler alert!) when Wanda's suspiciously nice neighbour Agnes (played by the most excellent Kathryn Hahn) is revealed, in fact, to have been a villainous witch named Agatha Harkness who had been pulling the strings and messing up everything for Wanda from the start.
What exactly had Agatha been doing all along? Here's an explainer.
WandaVision is up for a total of 23 Emmys overall, most of which will be announced at the primetime ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 19. Along with nominations for best limited series, sound editing, sound mixing, writing, special visual effects, and more, stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Kathryn Hahn herself are up for lead and supporting acting awards, and Matt Shakman is up for directing. Fellow Marvel Studios series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier scored five Emmy nominations too, including outstanding guest actor for Don Cheadle, visual effects in a season or movie, and sound editing. Loki is not up this year, but most likely next year.
Until then, it's time to turn up, as Mashable's Caitlin Welsh calls it, this "brassy banger," and while you're at it revisit this year's other earworms. Apologies in advance.
